Today’s Quote

“Listening to customers must become everyone's business. With most competitors moving ever faster, the race will go to those who listen (and respond) most intently.”

Express Yourself!

After researching expressions for our English and French language tutorials, we’ve discovered interesting parallels of animal sayings. For example, in both English and French you can be sick as a dog (malade comme un chien), slow as a turtle (lent comme une tortue) and stubborn as a mule (têtu comme un âne).

Many cultures have their own creature comparisons to explain human behavior; and we’d like to hear yours! Send us your most interesting animal-based expressions in any language (please supply explanation in English or French) and we’ll reward you with a three month subscription to our latest JEDlet tutorial releases. Email journalcontest@jedlet.com

Feature: Building Better E-Mousetraps

Contrary to the past popular belief that if you built the best e-mousetrap around, people will beat a path to your door, today’s knowledge market trends have become increasingly difficult to decipher. Though the education sector has jumped in with a profusion of online universities, the younger generation--though well-acquainted with the technology--is still slow to look to e-learning as a way to increase skills. And seniors, though e-learning provides an excellent way to continue lifelong learning at home, are still often struggling with the skills needed to enable it. So where are we headed?

In the recent article, “Predictions for 2006-- E-learning experts map the road ahead”, Lisa Neal, Editor-in-Chief of eLearn Magazine says,

“For all the emphasis on how content can be created and disseminated; there has been too little focus on the quality of the learning experience. That's why my prediction for 2006 is that people will realize that technology, no matter how innovative, is just an enabler. New technologies only succeed if they help people learn.”

At JED New Media, we have always adhered to rigorous quality controls and standards, and we have the certifications to prove it. But beyond employing the proverbial crystal ball to predict what people really want, maybe we can plan for the future by reviewing the past. We were surprised at which e-learning topics have become the most popular in our own library over the past year; and just as puzzled at which ones have yet to make an impression. So what have WE learned? We have realized the need to ask our customers what they want more often!

Please take this opportunity to suggest a JEDlet topic that interests you. Everyone who submits a unique suggestion receives a complimentary JEDlet subscription. Email: ideas@jedlet.com We’re listening!
